Our products and services include:
Computer-Generated Holograms (CGHs) enabling interferometric testing of optical surfaces – aspheres, freeforms, cylinders, conic sections, and many other complex surface shapes and optical systems
Mechanics for precise positioning and alignment of CGHs and test optics
Development of complete optical test setups for the fast-growing commercial space telescope industry, consumer electronics customers, the semiconductor lithography industry, and many other applications.
Position Overview
As a Sales Engineer at AOM – Rochester, you will serve as a critical support resource for our customers and a bridge between our customers and engineering teams. You’ll guide clients through the scoping and specification of our wide range of custom and semi-custom optical metrology products, ensuring solutions are tailored to their technical and operational needs. This role requires a blend of strong technical expertise, customer empathy, and a proactive, consultative approach to sales.
Essential Functions
Act as the primary commercial point of contact for prospective and existing customers, creating and maintaining relationships and communication channels.
Lead discovery conversations with customers to understand requirements, constraints, and success criteria.
Provide expert guidance on product selection, customization options, and system integration strategies.
Collaborate with engineering and product teams to develop tailored proposals and quotations.
Support customers throughout the sales cycle—from initial inquiry to post-delivery follow-up.
Develop detailed knowledge of our product portfolio and stay current on industry trends.
Represent the company at trade shows, technical conferences, and customer site visits.
Key Responsibilities
Grow AOM top-line sales, expand the customer base, and continue to develop a positive brand reputation
Primary account management responsibility for the US East region
Secondary account management responsibility for the EU region and other key accounts as assigned
- Rapid response technical support, providing guidance and expertise for end users on-site, by phone, and by video conference. Pull in engineering resources for support when needed.
- Travel up to 50% expected
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess these skills and qualifications:
BS or MS in Optical Engineering or related technical field.
5+ years of experience in optical testing, applications engineering, or technical sales desired.
Demonstrated ability to understand and perform interferometry required, experience with CGH metrology desired.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a consultative sales approach.
Ability to manage multiple projects and customer relationships simultaneously.
Strong MS Office 365 skills required. Experience with interferometry software, Python programming language, and Zemax a plus.
